September Update

September was a very busy month for SELF!

  • We co-hosted (with the Law of Intellectual Property student group) a very successful fundraising party a few weeks ago.  Over a hundred people attended!
  • New class/section reps were elected.  The new additions to SELF leadership are all very enthusiastic and qualified, and we're happy to have them aboard.
  • We are making great progress in our goal to get a sports & entertainment law class introduced into the curriculum!  We have been working on a proposal to create a short "J-term" class (a weeklong class held in January before the second semester starts) to be offered this year and it is making its way through the process as we speak.  The class will be about how to "brand" artists and athletes and will be taught by the incredibly qualified Paul Loving, Sports Marketing Counsel for adidas America.
  • The second SELF Sports and Entertainment Law Conference is starting to take shape!  Panel concepts have been nailed down and invites are headed out soon.  This will consume the majority of SELF's resources over the next few months but it should be decidedly worth it.
  • And last, but definitely not least, SELF and APALSA (Asian Pacific America Law Student Ass'n) are proud to announce that new Portland Trail Blazers GM Rich Cho will be coming to Oregon Law to speak!  Details to follow.  Amazingly, October might top September yet.
